As against antisemitism recently reported, antisemitism and conspiracy theories in Greece are rising and books with hate content are accessible to everyone in the stores.
It came to the attention of Against Antisemitism – Ενάντια στον αντισημιτισμό that a centrally located book bazaar in Ioannina (or Jannina), the capital of the region of Epirus, sells the antisemitic forgery „The Protocols of the Elders of Zion“ [see photo below]. The book bazaar is held on Averof Street.
Update, 14/01: The owners of the bazaar responded that they generally oppose censorship of the books sold at the bazaar and believe that the clients should decide themselves if they buy such books or not. We responded that freedom of speech is not unlimited and should be protected by the interdiction of books promoting racism & antisemitism. If Ioannina Book Fest totally opposes censorship, why don’t they sell books praising anti-Greek massacres in the Ottoman Empire or the apartheid in South Africa?
